چکیده

In tokamak experiments, various MHD instabilities usually co-exist and interact with fast particles. It can cause significant particle transport loss, pose damage to the first wall, leading discharge quench in tokamak. Therefore, understanding physical mechanism of caused by is a crucial but urgently solved issue for steady-state long pulse operation future reactor-graded devices. Based on experimental phenomenon synergy between nonresonant internal kink mode tearing observed NSTX, spherical device, this paper utilizes global nonlinear hybrid-kinetic simulation code M3D-K compare characteristics redistribution two cases: I) only non-resonant modes; II) mode. The transport, loss such studied. results show that significantly enhance main reason provide radial channel particles mitigate from plasma core boundary accompanied total stochasticity magnetic topology. These help understand low-frequency fusion reactors, some new ideas finding strategies control level reactors.

Nonlinear simulations of macro-instabilities in tokamak plasmas beyond MHD

The simulation of the interaction between macroscopic Alfvén modes and a population of hot ions is one of the challenges in tokamak plasma physics, mainly because of its possible negative impact on the plasma confinement in a future fusion device. The bi-fluid XTOR-2F code [1], using a fully implicit method with an iterative pre-conditioned Newton-Krylov for its solution at every time step has ...

Drift Ballooning Instabilities in Tokamak Edge Plasmas

The linear stability of high-toroidal-number drift-ballooning modes in tokamaks is investigated with a model that includes resistive and viscous dissipation, and assumes the mode frequency to be comparable to both the sound and diamagnetic frequencies. The coupled effect of ion drift waves and electron drift-acoustic waves is shown to be important, resulting in destabilization over an intermedi...
